Dis(Able)d

Did this for Yi Jun’s SL cause she she is such a nice person and also because she really is such a nice person.
It is such a creepy design i don’t think they’ll ever use it though

At a beach in Australia, a father was lovingly coaching his son to take off his trunks. The boy was crying at first but started laughing after his dad said this.

Figure of Tiny Toadstool, some very fashionable Japanese woman. I like her outfit, and stuck bits of paper on her coat and skirt.

There is something innocently luring about a pretty girl struggling for help. i thought. this guy on tumblr, narcoisis, frequently posts pics of skinny girls with bruises, cuts, minor injuries.

Our family rented a car to drive from Melbourne to some city. The GPS was screwed and my mom screwed up reading the map. We had a choice of spending another four hours in the car to reach our destination or spending another two hours in the car to go back where we started after we found out we were heading the wrong way. We picked the latter. Dissapointed at the outcome of the day, I ate mah nuts and raisins silently in the back of the car.

I think I was a more contentful and creative person back then. After google became my best friend, my brain capacity has shrunk and the gears of this machines have started rusting. This ‘self’ contained in this body has morphed. Currently not in a good way as I see it.

Pencil and Ps

I wrote dance_flow there cause I was watching 我猜 on U and they(a dance group) appeared so just wrote it down cause the lines were really flowing and also for remembrance’s sake

I had been attempting to rush out a uncompleted stuff and doodles and this one I didn’t complete. Now it is completed i’ll just upload it here so I can die with no regrets.

Title: Kettle

Medium: Pencil

Size: A3 size

Date: January 2008

The kettle king of looks like it is floating in mid air, because I did not shade the shadow dark enough. And the attempt to make it look like a reflective surface was rather weak. This could use a lot more work.

This one was fun to draw.

The last of my still life drawing stuff. Still life may be boring to look at, boring to draw, but I still think that’s its important to have a solid foundation before I can go on to draw things out of my imagination.

After watching this,

I decided to give a go, trying to use the technique that Iumazark employs, which is drawing something first with a pencil, shading it, then coating the darker areas with some watercolour. I have always loved the effect this gave, and here is my attempt…

Title: Iuma girl

Medium: Pencil, Watercolour

Size: B5

Date: 2010

okay, it did not turn out that bad, or that good either. I referenced this from some advertisement. I like the effect the background gives – kinda hazy, unclear. But I should work more on my tonal values, the whole picture still appears quite flat, and the proportion is not exactly very accurate.

All in all, I still like the effect it gives and I will be definitely be giving this a few more attempts in the future.

Title: Bear

Medium: Pencil

Size: A3

Date: 2007

I like this bear because it gives off this sense of solitude, even though its just this pencil drawing of a stuffed bear which my art teacher probably randomly took out of his cardboard.

This pencil shading seems rather light and lacking of tonal values and perhaps this is something that I can improve on. This also feels kind of alienated. I like the hair, because it was originally a very messy furry mop like strands of hair, but I managed to draw it so that it does not seem that messy. the body and limbs also remind me of loaves of bread (the kind on a fillet o fish) , seeming really soft and nice to pat, and I am going to assume that that is a good thing.

Charcoal Sticks

Awwww it’s a loving couple with big glossy eyes. With this picture I better learned how to use the eraser while drawing with charcoal, cause the furs were mainly done using shading, then erasing some white streaks. This is also one of the few occasions that I used charcoal to draw something that did not have a smooth texture, like pots, pans, cloth.

All the below three painting were done with poster colour.

Title: Poster1

Medium: Poster

Size: A3

Date: 2008

Some vegetable which looks like BeiJing cabbage, and a capsicum. I guess the highlight adds most of the three-dimensional feel to the vegetable. The shadows could use a bit of work because they appear a little out of place, the area directly underneath the vegetable should be darker.

Title: Poster2

Medium: Poster

Size: A3

Date: 2008

Big tempting piece of watermelon with two persimmons. Again, I really like the highlights, and the messy and ruffled background.

Title: Imitation2

Medium: Poster

Size: A3

Date: 2008

This is a painting I did, while copying from a big compilation of paintings.I really dislike the way this painting turned out because it is so flat and the colours are so murky, and it completely did not capture the ambience and atmosphere that the original painting had. My mom says this looks pretty good, but I guess that’s just because she has never seen the original. The only thing I like about this painting is the trees, because I like the way the dabs turned out on the leaves and branches.

Title: Marble 1

Medium: Charcoal Sticks

Size: A2

Date: 2008

So our art teacher buys these marble sculptures and he has a knack for picking these sculptures that have majestically wavy facial hair. Its not fun to try to dry them accurately onto the paper one curl by one curl, but its pretty fun to shade them and smoothen them. Charcoal has this pleasant touch to it when you rub it around the paper. It’s not like pencil which is completely flat, charcoal consists of these many fine particles that you can use your finger to shift around. Also, as this was one of the larger scaled pieces, it was challenging to sketch everything accurately onto the paper as I tend to sketch the whole thing part by part, which is the incorrect way I know, but this is just one of my drawing tendencies.

Title: Marble 2

Medium: Pencil

Size: A3

Date: September 2009

I know this is Stallin, because my mom’s friend criticized me when I told her I didn’t know who this person is. I think pencil is more tedious to use to draw large scale pictures with because you must use the pencil to trace over each blank space, but you can just spread the charcoal grains around the whole paper. But you can get more control with pencil, if you want to control where exactly the highlights or darker regions should be. While drawing this, I find that caucasian people have more contours and deeper set eyes compared to Asians, so they tend to have more shadowing on their face I feel.

Title: Fruit/Vegetable based fashion design

Medium: Acrylics, Poster

Size: A3 size

Date:  2009

This was a design I did based on the most terrifying and heart wrenching vegetable – the onion. So what I think is special about a onion besides its smell, is the layering. I tried to bring that out through by placing many layers on the clothes, like for example the hood, singlet, layered shoes/boots. The pants also quite resemble an onion I feel, those kinds where you peel apart the outer skin and you can see the many layers of rings it consists of.

This one is based on an apple, as seen in the vibrant red fabric and flashes of yellow seen throughout. I tried to give the fabric a crispy and dry feel, like that of a dried apple chip, but unfortunately it did not work out that well. The apple is a well-known and well-liked fruit and I think it would be interesting if the kind of person it was is the shy, mysterious, girl-who-lives-near-you-but-you-don’t-know-anything-about-her.

This one is based on a dragon fruit, as dragonfruits are purple and the unripe parts are greenish/yellow. I feel that the distinct part of a dragonfruit is its razor shaped protrusions on its skin, so I incorporated that into the top and the pants. I’ve always liked dragonfruits, including cutting and peeling it, and of course eating it. And I always thought it was a cool fruit, partly because of its name dragonfruit/ 龙珠果, and it sleek interesting textures.

I think overall, the poses of the models could be more dynamic and lively, right now they kinda look like restless stunned people. Another thing I like is the background, which I achieved by dabbing very diluted poster colour roughly onto the paper. I kinda ruined my brushes but at least the effect achieved is nice.

I both need and want to take anatomy classes; cause my human figures are fail.

Title: Name cards for L and KW

Medium: Marker and Pens

Size: 7 cm by 13 cm

Date: September 2010

both were done with markers, black pen, on the rectangular piece of white paper the cleanliness representatives gave us.

one thing i learnt while i did this was to be more careful in the future when colouring spaces using markers. because i was not very careful, the colours did not blend very well so perhaps i should take note of that in the future.
